New ownership arrangements will soon be coming into effect for some hospitals and services currently run by Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust (PAT).
These plans, known as the ‘PAT Transactions’ have been put in place to support the future clinical, financial and workforce sustainability of acute hospital services in the North East sector (North Manchester, Bury, Rochdale and Oldham) and across Greater Manchester.
The Pennine Acute Transactions are two legally separate but intrinsically linked transactions - It is a formal process involving The Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust (PAT), Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust (SRFT), and Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MFT) which is being led by NHS England and Improvement (NHSEI)supported by Greater Manchester Health and Social Care Partnership (GMHSCP).
The PAT Transactions will happen in two phases:
- On Thursday 1st April 2021, Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MFT) will formally acquire the North Manchester General Hospital (NMGH) site and services.
- By the end of September 2021 Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust (SRFT) will formally acquire the Bury, Rochdale, and Oldham sites and services of PAT. At that point, SRFT will also formally change its name to the Northern Care Alliance NHS Foundation Trust (NCA) and PAT will formally be dissolved as an NHS trust.
Supporting you through this transaction
A full Trust project team has been established to lead this work, which includes representatives from the Trusts and NHSP. We will be working in partnership with all Trusts (PAT, MFT and SFT/NCA) to make sure that the transaction from PAT to the acquiring Trust (MFT or SRFT/NCA) is as seamless as possible and to ensure that there is minimal impact on you.
We will be in touch with further instructions soon on the changes and processes that will directly impact you as well as any actions required to ensure you are fully equipped for the upcoming changes.
In the meantime, if you have any questions please refer to the FAQs below or get in touch with the relevant NHSP Team.
