Neonatal Intensive Care Registered Nurses to join the bank.

Location – Derriford Hospital

Band 5 NICU Nurses £28-£38 per hour plus accommodation bursary available for new bank nurses

We are looking to recruit Qualified in Specialty (QIS) Neonatal Nurses for who along with a positive attitude, commitment and determination will provide the very best of care to our neonatal population. You must demonstrate a commitment to professional development including a willingness to carry out any specialist training required in order to support your delivery of clinical practice within an evolving environment. We embrace all aspects of multidisciplinary education, research and evidence-based clinical care.

As a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, we are a progressive level 3 service currently providing 14 IC / high dependency beds, 8 special care and 18 transitional care cot’s, serving the population of Devon and Cornwall. As part of the South West Neonatal Operational Delivery Network, we enjoy collaborative working with our regional colleagues, ensuring that we continue to deliver current evidence based neonatal care.

Our accomplished nursing establishment, ANNP team, designated medical staff, Outreach Service and tier of support staff facilitate the delivery of highly specialised care in partnership with parents upholding the ethos of Family Integrated Care. We host the Peninsula Neonatal Transport Service which provides an expert 24-hour retrieval service for infants born across the region. This highly specialised service also provides an opportunity for experienced QIS staff to advance their clinical skills. We have an established Clinical Education team that provide a supportive and progressive environment with a strong commitment to induction, preceptorship and continuing professional development for all levels of nursing staff. We also offer exciting career development opportunities into Enhanced Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (ENNP) and Advanced Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (ANNP) roles via MSc pathways, in partnership with the University of Plymouth.

The University Hospital is located only a short drive from the vibrant Hoe front, the historical Barbican and the expansive and beautiful Dartmoor, all offering opportunities for a variety of cosmopolitan and outdoor activities. Local historical settings such as the Royal William Yard provide visitors both cultural and food fest opportunities with wonderful views looking over Plymouth Sound to Cornwall. We are seeking Registered NICU Nurses who are motivated and enthusiastic with excellent communication and team working skills to join our bank.

In order to apply for this post you must have a minimum of 6 months’ experience in a similar role held within the last 2 years, and hold NMC Registered Nurse (RN1) qualification and a valid PIN.

The post holder should be able:

  • Review and update plans of care and documents, according to NMC and Trust Policies
  • Practice in accordance with NMC Guidelines and scope of practice, and within Directorate and Trust policies
  • Administer medications safely according to NMC and Trust policy
  • Ensure safe and effective care for patients requiring advanced clinical skills, seeking support when required
  • Assess and recognise emergencies within the speciality, interpreting information and taking appropriate action, seeking support when required
  • Assess educational and information need for patients and families and devise plans to ensure needs are met, seeking support where required
  • Participate in clinical audit or research programmes within the clinical area
  • Contribute to the orientation, development and training needs of students and other staff
  • Adheres to the Nursing and Midwifery Council Code of Conduct and other associated guidelines and adheres to all Trust policies
  • Communicate effectively, in demanding and sometimes challenging situations
  • Work as part of a team and collaborate with other clinical areas to promote good working relationships
  • Ensure the needs of the patient and their family are taken into account and needs are assessed, planned, implemented and evaluated
