Band 5 RGN Dermatology Nurse

  • At least 16 hours per week, but a weekly commitment will be required to enable consistency of team members, where training and support can be given
  • Shifts available Monday – Friday 08:30 – 17:00 which can be flexible if discussed
  • Location: Bunnyhill Primary Care Centre

We are a community dermatology department, based at Bunny Hill PCC. We are looking for Band 5 RGN’s, with an interest in working within our team, to provide cover for an indefinite career break.

The service is planned care, with clinics running each day from Monday to Friday, There are no weekend or unsocial hours to cover. A typical clinic offers appointments from 8.30am until 5pm, providing a choice of times aimed at those who work or attend education.

We anticipate, in the first incidence, to offer 16 hours per week. It is imperative that the practitioner is able to commit on a regular basis, in order to maintain skills and competencies. We can be flexible on working patterns, over the week, but must be consistent, due to the nature of the treatment and booking patients into clinic, on a 3 weekly basis.

The role will involve managing their own caseload, after training, although senior support will always be available. The practitioner will be expected to perform tasks, such as administrating liquid nitrogen (cryotherapy) to treat warts and verrucae, for patients over 5 years. They will also administer topical steroid, such as Adcortyl, via a non-needle appliance, to treat alopecia and keloid scars. There are Standard Operating Policies, available on the intranet under the Dermatology section, including a competency framework to support the practitioner.

There is also the opportunity to develop skills in infection control and assisting in minor surgery, according to service need. Again full in house training will be given.

Experience in venepuncture would be useful but not essential.
